North Grove Street Culvert Replacement
Foit-Albert Associates, as the prime consultant, was retained to perform engineering design services for the replacement of a culvert that was in very poor condition and closed to the public.
Foit-Albert immediately performed a preliminary hydraulic analysis and determined the existing 11’ wide culvert needed to be 15’ wide. The height of the culvert was restricted by the shallow depth of the existing section. The length of the culvert was determined to be from Right-of-Way line to Right-of-Way line.
In order to expediate the replacement, the Town decided that the construction would not be bid to a contractor, rather construction services would be performed by Town forces. The Town personnel consisted of 9 DPW employees. After discussion with Foit-Albert, the Town felt that manufacturing of the box culvert could begin before final design was complete. This allowed manufacturing of the box culvert to be performed simultaneously with final design details. This would save calendar time on the project and hopefully lead to an installation before the winter of 2019 hits WNY.
