CR152 over Stony Creek

This locally administered federal aid bridge replacement project involved the reconstruction and slight realignment of CR152 Bridge over Stony Creek at Nutting Street Road in the Town of Henderson, NY along with adjacent roadway work. The project improved the alignment for safety and improve the substandard vertical and horizontal alignment. This was done by skewing the bridge, so that the curve can be elongated, as well as raising the profile to lessen a steep grade. In addition, the new alignment was balanced along the existing right-of-way, so no acquisitions were required. This helped to keep the project on a fast-paced schedule.

The replacement bridge has new abutments set back from the existing abutments which will aid in scour protection. The new superstructure was designed as a NEXT Beam so construction time could be minimized. New signage and pavement markings along the entire project were included that meets current MUTCD and NYSDOT standards.

The Foit-Albert Associates Environmental team provided permitting and asbestos inspection for this project. As directed by Section 4.4.6 of the NYSDOT Environmental Procedures Manual, New York State Department of State (NYSDOS) maps were consulted to comply with State Coastal Policies (State Coastal Management Program Areas), the Coastal Erosion Hazard Areas program (State Coastal Erosion Hazard Areas), and the Coastal Barrier Resources Act (Federal Coastal Barrier Resources System).

The bridge was opened to traffic in late 2018 with only planting and final paving left for 2019. Projecting out costs, the project will finish approximately 5% under the bid amount which was less than the Engineer’s Estimate.
