Richardson Olmsted Complex South Lawn Entry
Foit-Albert Associates provided the site and civil engineering components for the restoration and reinterpretation of this historic Olmsted landscape on a National Register of Historic Places site in the heart of Buffalo, the site of the H.H. Richardson-designed State Mental Hospital. Work included modification of the drainage system to support installation of Green Infrastructure practices, thus improving the quality of waters discharged from the site. Foit-Albert was also responsible for preparation of the SWPPP to comply with permitting requirements, realignment of entrance and exit roadways, hydraulic/hydrologic design for several new rain gardens (green infrastructure practices), modifications to the existing storm drainage system and support of the landscape architecture components. This included review of small structural components, which were placed to enrich the public’s experience of the site, such as a small bridge intended to emulate Olmsted’s designs of stone bridges.
